An Owen Sound Police drug trafficking investigation has resulted in the arrest of a Brampton resident on a long list of drug trafficking and firearms related charges.
City Police say on March 31 around 10 a.m., officers arrested a 35-year-old in his rental vehicle when he arrived at an east side residence.
Police allege the accused was found to be carrying a loaded pistol that was concealed with three additional magazines containing several rounds.
A search of the vehicle led officers to find two pump-action shotguns, ammunition belts holding shotgun rounds, more handgun bullets, police-style body armor, a baton, and several knives.
In addition, police say they also located highly toxic fentanyl, methamphetamine and more than $1,000 in cash in the vehicle.
Fentanyl is the deadly drug suspected in the overdose deaths of six Owen Sound residents this year.
Daniel Anderson, 35, of Brampton is facing 26 firearm and drug trafficking related offences. Police say he has been subject to a lifetime ban of the possession of firearms as a result of a previous conviction in 2017 in Owen Sound for possessing explosives, fentanyl and methamphetamine for trafficking.
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
Police Chief Craig Ambrose said he is extremely proud of the officers for their work in taking a dangerous criminal off the streets of Owen Sound. “This is a significant seizure both of drugs and weapons and it reflects our Service’s continuous commitment to ensuring the safety and well being of our community.”
