The Province has announced the hiring of 200 additional OPP officers at the cost of $25 million.
Premier Doug Ford says the new recruits will give OPP frontline officers addition al resources they need to better protect communities while safeguarding their mental health and well-being.
He made the announcement in Orillia today at OPP Headquarters.
“You make so many sacrifices to put your community first,” said Ford. “And I know there are good days and there’s bad days in the line of duty. Some days you get the crooks and the thugs and everyone walks away without a scratch. But on other days you arrive and the situation can turn ugly.”
The hiring builds on Ontario’s $2.6 million investment to hire new OPP psychologists and other mental health clinicians.
It also supports the creation of a new integrated mental health support program which launched in March.
Our government stands behind our men and women in uniform who’ve been on the frontlines during #COVID19. Today we announced the hiring of an additional 200 OPP officers to help keep our communities and Ontario safe.
