Grey County residents will have to hold on to their household hazardous waste a little bit longer.
The upcoming Household Hazardous Waste Day Event in Owen Sound has been cancelled due to the provincial stay-at-home order.
With the order in effect, the City of Owen Sound notes in a release the April 17th event is cancelled, and the next available household waste day event is set to be held one month later, on May 15th.
This service is open to residents of Owen Sound, Chatsworth, Meaford, Georgian Bluffs, West Grey and Grey Highlands.
They accept things like aerosol cans, antifreeze, batteries, bleach, detergents, gasoline, pharmaceuticals and unbroken fluorescent lights.
These events are held on a number of Saturdays throughout the year between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and take anything except:
-Materials containing PCBs, like fluorescent light ballasts
-Infectious or medical wastes, like old syringes
-Radioactive wastes, like smoke detectors
-Explosives, ammunition or flares
The city says, be advised that if you are looking to dispose of the above materials, contact your local police detachment for more details.
-Broken or leaking containers
-Unidentified wastes
-Empty containers, recycling and garbage
-Material generated by farms, industrial, commercial and institutional sources
When the event resumes next month, residents will be able to dispose of their waste at 1900 20th St. East Owen Sound.
More info on waste disposal can be viewed on the City of Owen Sound’s website.
