Plans for Cedar Crescent Village or CCV are continuing to advance through the necessary approval process and next on tap is approval from the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority.
As part of the normal process to advance SVCA permit applications, a peer review was completed by Peter Zuzek on the original engineering report completed for the project by Shoreplan Engineering.
The purpose of a peer review is to properly review the technical work where there is not staff expertise in-house.
The peer review highlighted where more clarity was required and Shoreplan Engineering Ltd. has submitted an addendum to their original report that addresses all questions raised.
SVCA board member, Saugeen Shores Vice Deputy Mayor Mike Myatt says there are things in the peer review that CCV and Shoreplan Engineering didn’t agree with, so they’ve sent in a rebuttal to some of the challenges.
At town council Monday, April 26th, Beach Preservers spokesperson Patricia Frank says both reports are what she calls “very damning.”
Frank goes on to say even the Shoreplan report talks about issues that need to be addressed.
She believes the report states if CCV moved the development back by 25-metres, it would probably get approved by the SVCA.
The town hopes to meet with the SVCA this week, along with the authors of the two reports.
If necessary an SVCA Executive Committee meeting will be held the first week of May.
The SVCA has committed to reviewing the application in a timely manner in order to support project timelines, and town staff continue to work with stakeholders to advance the project.
The CCV development includes a restaurant, special events hall, retail and recreation space to be located at the harbour of the Port Elgin Main Beach.
