Reports of two successful scams in southern Bruce County has local OPP advising residents to be cautious.
According to police, on April 27th, South Bruce OPP received a report of a scammer who posed as an employee from a well-known bank and proceeded to take $2,200 from a southern Bruce County resident.
Following, on April 28th, the detachment received a report of a scammer posing as an employee of an established insurance company and took $8,000 from a resident.
Police say, modern and tech-savvy scammer have the ability to create convincing scams and they will not hesitate to use the name of a legitimate company in a ploy to gain your trust and trick you into paying them.
Const. Kevin Martin from South Bruce OPP says, “always be cautious with unsolicited email, phone calls, letters, even visitors at your door. Unsolicited means that you didn’t as for it. Always be certain who you are dealing with before you every consider sending money.”
The OPP notes cons and scams are attempted daily and they will continue as long as they are making money.
