Bruce Power is supporting the Red Cross by donating $20,000 while it works on Covid relief in India.
According to Bruce Power in a release, the funds will go to the Red Cross to help with its pandemic preparedness, response and recovery activities in India.
Head of Corporate Affairs for Bruce Power Pat Dalzell says, “India is experiencing a critical surge in Covid cases, with the country’s health care system stretched beyond capacity, and supplies running short. This donation will support the Canadian Red Cross in its effort to offer assistance to those affected in India.”
John Peevers from Bruce Power notes the reason why the company donated to support the situation in India was due to the country being in a tough situation with the pandemic, saying, “The case counts and the really unfortunate loss of life struck a cord with us and our employees and wanted to do something to try and assist.”
Since March 2020, the company has supplied over 2.5 million pieces of Personal Protective Equipment to frontline workers, businesses, Indigenous communities and schools.
Through assistance from the nuclear supply chain, Bruce Power raised over $500,000 for food banks across the Counties of Grey, Bruce and Huron, and was able to distribute 50,000 litres of hand sanitizer to small businesses, organizations, Indigenous communities, and local school boards.
In addition, the company worked with various health units around Ontario, including Grey Bruce, and assisted in providing resources and logistical support in converting hockey arenas into immunization hubs.
Peevers says Bruce Power does not have any immediate plans to assist other countries at the moment but they will be watching the Covid situation and take cues for their employees.
