The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is moving onto the next stage of its re-opening plan.
As of Monday, Aug. 31, the health, fitness and aquatics facility will further re-open to current and new members. The YMCA, located at the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre on 10th Street in Owen Sound, has been conducting a pilot restart of its fitness and aquatics centre the past few weeks.
“It’s been great to see so many familiar faces back at our Y! We are hearing from our members that they feel safe and are happy to be back,” says YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce CEO Gayle Graham in a statement. “We’re excited to move to the next stage of our re-start and will continue to adapt in this ever-changing environment.”
Many new safety protocols have been implemented at the fitness centre, with the guidance of public health.
Mask use is required while indoors at the facility, but not while exercising. Other new safety measures include screening of members and staff, spacing of gym equipment at least two metres apart and additional sanitation stations throughout the facility, according to a release from the YMCA.
Members are being asked to reactivate their memberships by contacting the YMCA. Drop-in day passes are not available at this time.
The YMCA closed in mid-March at the onset of pandemic lockdowns, with some of its services such as employment, community and housing continuing remotely.
In early July, the YMCA restarted its Early Learning Child Care centres and summer day camp program.
