At the regular Arran-Elderslie council meeting on May 25th, Arran-Elderslie Mayor Mark Davis says he doesn’t think the Integrity Commissioner concept is working and he’s heard similar opinions from other communities.
While discussing the municipality’s revamped Code of Conduct, he suggests even the Commissioner isn’t following the rules.
He says the Commissioner was supposed to give council a report, six months after being hired and an annual report thereafter.
Davis no such reports have been presented to council.
He doesn’t believe the Integrity Commissioner system is working “all that great.”
Davis assumes the commissioner is busy but he finds it “kind of difficult for someone who’s supposed to be adhering to this policy, to not adhere to it.”
He says any report to council would be a light one because there’s been very little the commissioner has had to deal with in Arran-Elderslie.
However, that’s no excuse not to present annual reports.
Staff will prepare a report for councillors to see what options are available to move this issue forward.
Arran-Elderslie’s Integrity Commissioner is Harold Elston.
