The City of Owen Sound is planning on starting a hydrant flushing program this summer.
A release notes, running between now and September, the work will be more vigorous this year compared to years past.
As improvements have been made to the watermain in addition to the 10th Street Bridge project, it’s expected fire flows in the city have increased, and the testing is performed to see the extent of how much it has improved.
Residents are advised, if flushing is being done in their part of town, they may see various side effects like lower water pressure, increased cloudiness, or rusty water. Note this is normal, as well as expected when flushing out older cast iron watermains.
If residents run cold tap water for about five to 10 minutes, the water should clear up, but if that does not work, they can call the Water Department.
Hydrant testing is planning to start on the west side of the city and move from the north to the south.
The release notes, if everything works on schedule, the testing will then move to the east side next week, starting in the north, then move south.
The hydrant flushing program will start on the east side of the city and move north to south. Once finished on the east side, the flushing will then move to the west and start in the north and continue south.
