The town of Saugeen Shores is going curling in 2022.
At the May 25th meeting of Committee of the Whole, council tentatively approved becoming a gold level sponsor by waiving $5,000 in rental fees during the Ontario Men’s Curling Championship next year at the Plex.
The municipality will still see rental money coming in totalling an estimated $5,500.
Also important is this Ontario Tankard event could mean as much as one-million-dollars in economic impact, through lodging, restaurants, fuel and shopping.
A report to council from Director of Corporate Services Sue Murray states, “This event is a great opportunity, which will have a large impact in our community and direct
proceeds from this event will stay in our community supporting the Port Elgin Curling Club.”
The Tankard is scheduled to run for 5-days, February 6th to 13th, next year.
