The Bruce County Human Services Committee approved the revised Community Safety and Well-Being Plan (CSWBP) municipal agreement between Bruce County, Grey County, and the sixteen participating local municipalities listed in the agreement.
While most committee members voted in favour of the new deal, not everyone was sold on the idea, but they were willing to give it some time.
Committee member and Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau says he’s willing to test the plan for a year but wants a review by councillors after that.
In addition to the 16 municipalities the group shall be comprised of members representing the sectors of Child/Youth, Community and Social Services, Education, Health and Mental Health, Police Services and other service agencies will be part of the new plan.
The idea is to streamline regional work of the various agencies.
Committee member and Brockton Mayor Chris Peabody, voted against the agreement.
Peabody fears the larger population sector tends to try to dominate things and he feels Bruce County would be better off on its own.
The Bruce municipalities have each contributed $5,000 while Bruce County has contributed $10,000. and Grey County contributed $55,000 on behalf of the Grey municipalities to fund the Co-ordinator position to assist with the implementation of the plan.
