Saugeen Shores is showing interest, in principle, in making all land division planning decisions locally rather than at the county level.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau likes the idea of making all planning decisions, including contentious ones, at the local council table.
Discussion on the matter took place at the Committee of the Whole meeting June 14th.
Right now, Bruce County handles the tough issues and ultimately makes the planning decision.
Charbonneau says under the new plan the decision-making would be local but the lower tier would not be saddled with the investigation costs.
Vice Deputy Mayor Mike Myatt, along with Councillor Cheryl Grace expressed concerns about costs but both were willing to wait for a report from staff on the concept.
Town staff will be talking with county staff about cost-effectiveness, streamlining and the ability to address local context with planning matters and then report back to Saugeen Shores councillors.
