The Bluewater District School Board is recognizing student and staff provincial, national and international award winners for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years.
A release notes the Covid pandemic limited many activities of both students and staff, however, they are now recognizing the winners in athletics, science, math, teaching, scholarship, and others.
Bluewater District School Board Chair Jane Thomson says they are extremely proud of the outstanding accomplishments of the students and staff at the provincial, national and international levels.
“These examples are a small representation of the many amazing achievements that continue to occur in our schools, which are especially impressive during these times,” says Thomson.
For the 2019-20 school year:
-Brooklyn Quanz of Saugeen District Senior School, Silver at Women Novice 4K from Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations Cross Country Running
-Janna Wardell of Owen Sound District Secondary School, Bronze from OFSAA Nordic Skiing Senior Girls Cross Country Skiing
-Islay Graham of Hepworth Central Public School, Ontario Junior Citizen of the year Award from Ontario Community Newspaper Association
-Beavercrest Community School, Gold from Ontario Physical and Health Education Association Healthy Schools Certification
-Dawnview Public School, Certified from Ontario Physical and Health Education Association Healthy Schools Certification
For the 2020-21 school year:
-Caleb Dawson of Arran-Tara Elementary School, Bronze at Virtual Canada-Wide Science Fair Junior Division
-Islay Graham of Owen Sound District Secondary School, Scholarship Award at Virtual Canada-Wide Science Fair
-Nived Menon of Alexandra Community School, 1st Place at Caribou Mathematics Contest/Caribou Cup Grade 3/4 level
-Tyler Boyle Teacher of Macphail Memorial Elementary School, Ontario Certificate of Achievement from Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence
-Taylor Donaldson of Hillcrest Elementary School, 1st Place at Ontario National Archery in School Program Championship Virtual Tournament, Virtual Girl’s Middle School Division
-Alissa Negus of Hillcrest Elementary School, 3rd Place at Ontario National Archery in School Program Championship Virtual Tournament, Virtual Girl’s Middle School Division
-Hillcrest Elementary School, 2nd Place at Ontario National Archery in School Program Championship Virtual Tournament, Virtual Team Elementary School Division

In addition, Avryl Bender of John Diefenbaker Senior School was recently selected out of over 6,000 applicants to receive the McCall MacBain provincial award from the Loran Scholars Foundation.
