Over $5 million is being funded to local hospitals in Grey Bruce to assist with their operations.
Announced by Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker, the Ontario government is allocating these funds as a way to address the challenges created by the pandemic.
Hospitals part of the Grey Bruce Health Services (GBHS), will be receiving over $4 million, South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) will receive over $600,000, and the Hanover and District Hospital will be receiving over $300,000.
Serving as investments into hospitals, this is the third straight year in which the Ontario government made significant allocations into provincial hospitals in an effort to end hallway healthcare.
“Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, our local hospitals have gone above and beyond to provide exceptional care to patients and families in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound,” says Walker. “This new investment is just one way Ontario is supporting high-quality and timely access to health care both during the pandemic and in the future.”
SBGHC President and CEO Michael Barrett adds, “as we navigate new challenges associated with our recovery from the pandemic, this funding increase will ensure that we can continue to provide high quality patient care at our four hospital sites now and into the future.”
Outlined in the 2021 Budget as Ontario’s Action Plan: Protecting People’s Health and Our Economy, a total of $1.8 billion has been set aside for hospitals in 2021-22, as well as an increase of over $700 million in funding to address current and future demands of services.
The action plan also features an additional over $700 million to assist hospitals in continuing to respond to the pandemic and an additional $300 million to reduce surgical backlogs.
