The Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services is holding its annual siren testing this week in the Inverhuron area.
In a release, Fire Prevention Officer Shane Watson says the testing will be held on July 15 between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
The sirens operate as a way to notify everyone within a three kilometre radius of Bruce Power in the event of a nuclear emergency.
Watson says when the tests begin, they will be notifying people within the area over the sirens of the test before the wailing starts.
Tests are currently going on to determine the effective range of the sirens and more are expected to occur in the winter.
Watson notes as the areas around Inverhuron typically have an influx of tourists during the summer, the fire department makes their best efforts to inform everyone of the testing that is happening in the unlikely event of an actual nuclear emergency and what steps to take.
