Environment Canada has a severe thunderstorm watch in place for Grey Bruce.
East of Grey Bruce, there were Tornado warnings earlier this afternoon going from Collingwood to Barrie, over to Newmarket and over Lake Simcoe.
Videos posted on social media have shown some significant wind damage to buildings in Barrie.
Police there say they are responding to multiple reports of damage in Southeast Barrie. Photos posted to social media show a suburban neighbourhood where one house’s roof is gone and a car across the street is upside down.
According to reports, there are a number of injuries.
Meanwhile, hydro one is encouraging those around lake huron and gerogian bay to be prepared for possible weather related power outages and to have family emergency kits stocked.
Environment Canada’s sever thunderstorm watch for Grey Bruce says conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms early this afternoon into this evening as a cold front moves in from the west.
We could see damaging wind gusts of 90 to 110 km/h, nickel-sized hail, and heavy downpours.
Environment Canada says a tornado is also possible.
A watch is not yet a warning. Warnings are issued when weather events are about to occur or are occurring.
According to Environment Canada, a cold front is expected across southern Ontario late this afternoon that is expected to result in scattered thunderstorms, some of which may become severe.
