We’ve got lots of new music starting to play on the Mix! Want to take a listen to what we’re playing, and maybe get to know some of our artists a little better? Well here’s your chance.
Justin Bieber – Anyone
Surprise, surprise! Justin Bieber is keeping his train of hits rolling with his new song “Anyone.” Bieber released this song right at the stroke of midnight on New Years. And it’s starting to gain some serious traction. Oddly enough, this was actually supposed to be a Camilla Cabello song! For real, it was set to release on her 2019 album “Romance” but was scrapped last minute. You can actually hear the leaked audio on Youtube!
Olivia Penalva – Love Me
Olivia Penalva isn’t quite a household name yet, but is certainly a rising star in Canadian Pop Music. Hailing from BC, Penalva has been writing music since she was 13, and first broke onto airwaves with a Christmas Song, “Christmas for Two” (which you can usually hear on Mix throughout the month of December). Originally released in 2018, “Love Me” has recently gained some serious traction thanks to it’s popularity in the app… you guessed it… Tiktok!
Shawn Hook – Take Me Home & I Don’t Wanna Dance
We love us some Shawn Hook, and he was a pretty busy guy during the Pandemic as he took the time to write, record and release a 7 Song EP. There were two on that album that really stood out. You can hear “Take Me Home” throughout your workday, but we felt that we need to save “I Don’t Wanna Dance” for our Weekend Dance Party… Yes we do see the irony in the song title…
Ava Max – My Head & My Heart
You ever hear a new song and just think, “This is gonna be a huge hit.” That’s exactly what I thought after Ava Max released “Kings and Queens.” And I was right! It quickly hit Number 1 on the Hot AC charts. Her follow up single “My Head & My Heart” will likely do the same. I could point something out about the melody for this song, but I would rather see if you can figure out what huge dance hit it originated in…
Jessia – I’m Not Pretty
Here’s another BC Artist that is becoming wildly popular thanks to TikTok! But, what makes this song really interesting is that it was inspired BY TikTok. There was a viral video going around with the message, “I ain’t ever seen two pretty best friends” (this kind of negativity is one of the various reasons I avoid that app). Clearly this did not sit well with Jessia, and in response she was inspired to create an anthem for body positivisty. Just take a listen, the lyrics speak for themselves!
Delaney Jane & Virginia To Vegas – Just As MuchÂ
And finally we have two mainstays of Canadian Artists on Mix 106.5 teaming up to create this synthesizer fueled pop-ballad-break-up-song! Make sure you listen to this version with headphones though, as the lyrics are a little NSFW!
