We’ve all had to deal with late fees at some point in our lives, but for a VHS Rental in Oklahoma, it’s being taken to an entirely new Level.
52 year old Caron Davis, from Texas, recently found out she was facing felony charges for failing to return a VHS Cassette tape of Sabrina The Teenage Witch, which she allegedly borrowed from a Store in Oklahoma, back in 1999.
The exact charges read as such: Davis “did willfully, unlawfully and feloniously embezzle a certain One (1) Videocassette Tape, Sabrina the Teenage Witch of the value of $58.59,”
Side Note: did Videocassette tapes really cost that much? I mean, you can get entire series of TV shows for about that price now… But, that’s not the point.
The charge was initially filed back in 2000, meaning that Davis has been a wanted felon for approximately 21 years. However she claims to have no memory of ever renting the tape, even going as far as to say that she has, “never watched that show in my entire life,” adding that the Melissa Joan Hart comedy is “not my cup of tea.” However she went on to realize that having this on her criminal background could explain how she would seemingly be randomly fired from jobs over those 21 years. “This is why,” she said. “Because when they ran my criminal background check, all they’re seeing is those two words: felony embezzlement,” she said.
Another weird factor is that the video rental store has been out of business since 2008! So even 13 years after going under someone was still out for that VHS.
Luckily though, the Oklahoma District Attorney’s Office has announced that it is dropping the case and all charges against her, after this story went viral. But, I think it’s safe to say if she wasn’t a fan of the show before, she probably HATES it now!
But, I’m still a fan of the show, so enjoy this video of Salem the Cat being sassy for 2 minutes!
