As a fan of the Ottawa Senators, I can tell you there hasn’t been a lot to cheer about this season.
The team is very much in the middle of a rebuild and they won’t be making the playoffs but there are a few reasons to be optimistic about the future.
One of those reasons is Tim Stuetzle, a 19-year-old rookie, who’s had a great debut season in Ottawa, scoring 12 goals and 17 assists in 52 games.
This past Saturday night was another milestone for Stuetzle as he recorded his first NHL career hat-trick, scoring three goals in a 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets.
Unfortunately for Tim, no fans in the stands meant no tradition of watching hats rain down from the stands on to the ice – it’s a moment a rookie never forgets.
Tim may not have been able to see the hats hit the ice but he likely won’t forget watching the hats rain in his backyard – courtesy of a bunch of young fans in his neighbourhood.
Congrats Tim! Here’s hoping for many more hat-tricks…hopefully scored against the Leafs 😉
