Next time you go out for dinner, keep an eye on people around the restaurant.
Are they on their phones a lot?
I try NOT to be on my phone when I’m out with others out of respect, but we’re all guilty of doing it from time to time. You will even see people who put their phones right on the table.
There is a new restaurant in Verona, Italy called Al Condominio Ristorante Italiano that is motivating patrons to look away from their phones. They have special lockers that diners can put their phones in during their meal. They simply take the key and pick up their phone when they’re leaving.
If they show their waiter that they locked up their phone by showing the key, they will be given a free bottle of wine!
The restaurant owner said in an interview that ‘technology is becoming a problem’. He added: ‘There is no need to look at your phone every five seconds, but for many people, it is like a drug… this way they have an opportunity to put it aside and drink some good wine.’
Think this is something other restaurants should do?
Maybe offer a discount of free dessert to those who dine phone free?
