We are busy people and this means we’re not always taking the best care of ourselves. This includes staying hydrated. Nearly 75% of us drink only 2.5 cups of water per day, far less than the recommended 15.5 cups for men and 11.5 cups for women.
How do you know if you’re dehydrated? The signs might be more subtle than you realize. Obviously feeling thirsty is a giveaway, but things like dark-coloured urine, dry skin or mouth, dizziness, and fatigue are all signals your body is sending you to hydrate.
Here are some tips to make sure you’re drinking enough water:
1. Set a Timer
Set an hourly reminder on your phone to ensure you’re drinking water.
2. Do a Self Check-In
Your mood can be directly impacted by dehydration, so if you’re feeling irritable, it might be time for a glass of water.
3. Keep Water Visible
Keep a water bottle on your desk, in your car, or anywhere you’re spending time. Out of sight often means out of mind, so keeping it nearby is a great reminder to hydrate.
4. Move Your Body
A little movement, like going for a walk, can trigger your body’s natural thirst response. Plus, it’s good for you!
5. Make It a Habit
Just like brushing your teeth, drinking water should be a part of your daily routine.
Finally, if you’re still struggling, start your day with a full glass of water. It’ll make a noticeable difference – and it’s a habit worth trying!
